For sale is a highly collectible and incredibly rare 1909 advertising calendar plate. This is an authentic piece of turn-of-the-century social history in beautiful condition. While most calendar plates from this era feature generic fruits or standard landscape scenery, this humorous, satirical cartoon center graphic is highly unusual and incredibly hard to find. Front Graphic: Features a Victorian/Edwardian couple holding a terrier puppy, captioned "Try It On The Dog" (a popular early 1900s theatrical and household slang phrase). Local History: Custom-stamped for a business as a "Souvenir of Boswell, IND." Manufacturer: Unmarked (typical for advertising pieces), but features the unmistakable "Carnation" embossed scalloped rim shape manufactured by the famous D.E. McNicol Pottery Co. of East Liverpool, Ohio. Size: Approx. 8.5 inches. Condition: Great vintage display condition. The graphic transfer on the front is incredibly clean, bright, and sharp with no fading. Features gorgeous, uniform clear crazing across the glaze typical of authentic age. No cracks. Note: There is one small, shallow chip on the back underside edge caused by vintage hanging hardware (shown in the last photo). It is completely invisible when the plate is viewed or displayed from the front. Features gorgeous, uniform clear crazing across the glaze typical of authentic age, with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Perfect for antique collectors, dog/terrier lovers, farmhouse country kitchen decor, or historical pottery enthusiasts.
