Late mid-century impressionist oil painting of vibrant pansies in a glass vase. The colors are incredibly rich and the brushwork has beautiful texture. It is a wonderfully pretty, cheerful piece that brings instant vintage warmth to any room, cabin, or cottage wall. Medium: Original Oil on Canvas Panel Vintage Grumbacher No. 634 Panel Dimensions: 20" x 24" Date: Hand-signed and dated 1970 Condition Notes: The artwork itself is in great shape with bright, vivid pigments. The frame is the original 1970 wood-and-linen frame from the artist’s estate. It is solid and structurally sound, but the finish shows its age and it could definitely use a new frame (or a fresh coat of paint/restoration) to truly make the painting pop! About the Artist: Otto Thompson (d. 1976)For the antique hunters and art collectors out there, this piece has fantastic local provenance! Otto Thompson was a recognized mid-century Canadian artist who lived and worked out of the Islington/Etobicoke area of Toronto. He was best known for his vivid, textured floral still-lifes painted during the 1960s and 1970s. The back of this piece retains its original, rare historical stamps from the Thompson household inventory on Kipling Avenue, complete with the vintage 7-digit phone number. It is a true piece of Ontario's mid-century art history!
