An exceptional, completely intact 3-piece antique Victorian sauce tureen / gravy boat set manufactured by Ridgways at the Bedford Works pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. This set features the highly collectible "DEE-SIDE" Rust pattern (British Patent Office Registration Number Rd. No. 49557), which officially dates its design registration to 1886-1890. It is a stunning example of late 19th-century Aesthetic Movement design, showcasing a large focal dragonfly against an asymmetrical backdrop of geometric panels, wild reeds, and delicate gold gilt highlights. While this pattern was most commonly produced in standard brown ink, this set features the significantly rarer and highly sought-after rust-red / pinkish-crimson colorway. Complete 3-Piece Set Includes: The tureen basin (with side handles), the matching lid with a molded handle and built-in ladle/spoon notch, and the original matching underplate platter. Dimensions: Approximately 7 ½ inches long (handle to handle) by 4 inches wide Age: Approximately 140 years old with normal, expected wear for an antique of this era. Condition: Tight, stable hairline crack on the upper rim; has been stable for years. Glaze Chip: Small, shallow glaze flake on the side body. It is the same color as the pottery underneath, making it virtually unnoticeable when on display. General Wear: Authentic glaze crazing throughout and typical minor gold gilt loss on rims/handles. Displays beautiful, clean, age-appropriate clear glaze crazing that confirms its authentic Victorian origin. The transfer print remains crisp and vibrant.
