For sale is a rare, sequentially numbered matching pair of authentic mid-19th-century (c. 1840–1860) chine-collé intaglio master prints published by the renowned Franz Hanfstaengl in Munich, Germany. Subject: La Danse (Plate Wa. 71) and L'escarpolette (Plate Wa. 72) after French Rococo master Jean-Baptiste-Joseph Pater. Authenticity Features: Both pieces feature distinct, deep intaglio plate mark indentations into the heavy rag support paper. The ultra-smooth chine-collé artwork sheets are perfectly bonded to the underlying cardstock, showing the characteristic oxidized wheat-paste borders of genuine 19th-century European graphics. No photomechanical halftone dots—true stone/metal continuous ink variations. Provenance: Custom-framed in the mid-1960s by the historic "House of Pictures" on Biscayne Blvd, Miami (original vintage shop label intact on backing). These 19th-century German lithographs were beautifully restored and reframed in March 2021, using modern archival materials while carefully preserving their original 1960s Miami gallery label. Housed in gorgeous gilded wood frames with textured mats. There is a tiny, virtually unnoticeable chip along the bottom front edge of the gold-gilded frame, as shown in a photo.
